THE A595 was closed for four hours following the death of a man whose car was discovered in a river.
At around 4.40pm on Wednesday police, firefighters and paramedics were called to Lickle Bridge on the A595, at the bottom of the hill between the High Cross Inn at Broughton and the Duddon Bridge.
A red BMW had been found in the river, and is believed to have been travelling towards Millom when it left the road after colliding with the bridge. The driver of the car, described by police as a 26-year-old local man, has died.
Police at the scene said officers had informed the man's family.
The A595 was affected by significant delays in both directions, with hundreds of cars stuck in tailbacks.
The road was reopened at 9.30pm after the car was recovered from the river.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101.

Devastating news. I remember the day I first met you, in the pub with friends. As years went by we always stood by one another. I remember the look in your eyes and the smile on your face. Just wish I had the chance to say good bye once more. R.I.P you always had a special place in my geart. Thoughts go out to the family.

Have your say
Think the reality of it all is actually kicking in. Cant believe I am never ever going to speak to you again. I always thought our paths would cross again. But time for you to join your loved ones up there. May you rest in peace.
