Heritage Open Days 2010 in South Copeland
We are proud to celebrate the heritage of our area, which stretches from the Duddon to the Esk, embracing the market town of Millom and nearby Haverigg, with the villages of South Copeland – an area of great natural beauty and a rich heritage, from the prehistoric to the modern.
A feature of the heritage of this area is that for the most part, it is not about the rich and famous, but is the story of the lives and livelihoods of ‘ordinary’ men and women. Perhaps it is this that makes visitors to our heritage events and attractions so easily able to relate to what they see and hear. The rural and the industrial past is celebrated here in many and diverse ways, but always at the heart of the story are the people of the area.
Our heartfelt thanks go to all those who work so hard to make this Heritage Open Days Festival happen each year. This is entirely done by volunteers, many of whom put in untold hours of effort. We are also grateful for the continuing encouragement and support of English Heritage; especially by its officer, Patrick Burke.
We hope that you enjoy the festival in its many and varied activities, and we look forward to welcoming you."

Millom & Area Heritage Open Days 2010 - continued!
2010 sees the Millom & Area HODs group provide overloaded days in September for this year's events. A wide variety of venues and open spaces will be used for exhibitions, interesting talks, guided walks and historical facts. The list of over 50 events appears below and is crammed into just four days. To help you get to, from, and between, all the locations, an essential map (along with SatNav location data) has been provided. By using the 'directions' facility, a list of driving directions can be obtained for the lesser-known locations.
