Judo Championships at Millom

SOME of the best young judo talent in the country descended on Millom at the weekend for the annual The South Cumbria Championships.
Previously the Millom Judo Club Annual Competition, the event was renamed this year by chairman Roger Bradley to reflect it being recognised as one of the major events on the British Judo Association calendar.
That was shown as 145 players from as far afield as St Helens, Bolton, Wigan, Gateshead, Sunderland, Redcar, Kendal and Scotland turned up to show their skills on the Millom mats.
As well as the national competitors, Furness Judo Club and host club Millom had a number of players involved, with the age range from under-eights to under-19s.
The local players did very well, with Millom taking one gold medal, won by Adam Dixon, five silver medals, through Nathan Woodward, Alice Woodward, Hiedi Bradley, Tom Vernon, Emily Wright and Ben Dixon and one bronze medal, won by Paige Craik.
Millom club chairman Bradley said: “The event was a great success and most people thoroughly enjoyed their day in Millom.”
The Millom club would like to thank all the sponsors for their support, which included the North West Evening Mail, and Millom Judo Committee, especially Wendy Craik, for all their hard work in making the day a success.
