Millom prepares for festive season

RESIDENTS are preparing to deck the halls with boughs of holly as a town steps up its preparation for festive fun.

Millom’s Christmas lights have been put up by workers this week, ahead of the countdown to Christmas which is already under way across the country.

The lights were secured with help from the Copeland Community Fund, which has provided £30,000 towards the display.

The lights are now decorating the town for the second year of a five-year run.

Funding for the Millom lights was secured by former mayor of Millom, Councillor Joan Hobbs, after she became increasingly disillusioned with those provided by Copeland Borough Council.

Millom Christmas Festival takes place on December 8 and will feature performances from choirs and bands, along with a festive market with more than 30 different stands.

The event is set to transform the town into a winter wonderland while the light display is guaranteed to add an extra festive sparkle to proceedings.
