Mother praises ‘amazing’ Bethany

A MILLOM mum, who has been in hospital for the past seven weeks, has praised her “superstar” daughter for running the home in her absence.
Ann-Marie Jump was diagnosed with a tumour on her spine in May and several weeks ago awoke one morning to find she was paralysed with pain.
It left the 38-year-old unable to move from the waist down without being in a huge amount of pain.
Mrs Jump has spent the last seven weeks receiving treatment at various hospitals – but said she will be home for Christmas.
She said: “They discovered I had a tumour in May but several weeks ago the pain got a lot worse.
“I woke up and found it was too painful to move. I couldn’t move from the waist down without being in a huge amount of pain.
“Since then I have been in Preston Royal Hospital, Furness General Hospital and now Millom Hospital for rehab.
“I’ve also had to go to Westmorland General Hospital for a heart monitor to be fitted.”
Despite her mother being in hospital, 14-year-old Bethany Jump has been running a tight ship at the family’s Moor Road home.
Mrs Jump said: “Bethany has continued to go to school and army cadets.
“She has also helped look after the house for her Dad. She has been helping to clean the house and cooking meals for her dad when he comes in from work.
“She’s just carried on with normal life, it hasn’t affected her school at all.”
Bethany has just completed mock GCSE exams at school and received top marks, despite her mum’s illness playing on her mind.
Mrs Jump said: “I find it amazing how she can continue at school as normal with everything that its going on. She is my little superstar.”
Mrs Jump is having her pain controlled by painkillers at present, while her progress is being monitored by her doctors.
