School’s 78 pupils sing on record for Haiti aid

INFANT school children are following in the footsteps of pop stars by making a charity record for Haiti.

The pupils of Millom Infant School have recorded a song which they will sell to raise money for the families in the earthquake-hit country.

All 78 children from the Lapstone Road school have lent their voices to a song penned by senior teaching assistant Lynne McQuire.

Mrs McQuire wrote the song for the children to sing during their recent ‘Wear a Hat for Haiti Day’.

The school went on to record Hat for Haiti at Firehouse Recording Studios in Millom.

Owner Barry Vernon provided the facilities free of charge.

The recording will shortly be on sale.

One verse includes the words: “We are only little children, with nothing much to give.

“We want to help but don't know what to do.

“So we’ll wear our hats and sing out loud. So you can hear above the crowd.

“We’ll send our song of hope and love. And friendship far across the world to you.”

Millom Infant School’s record follows the number one Haiti charity single, a remake of REM’s classic Everybody Hurts produced by Simon Cowell, and including the vocals of Leona Lewis, Mariah Carey, Robbie Williams, Kylie, Rod Stewart, Take That, Westlife, Cheryl Cole, JLS, and Susan Boyle.

Mrs McQuire said the children have been moved by the scenes from Haiti so they decided to hold the ‘Wear a Hat for Haiti Day’ to raise money.

It was then suggested that the song of the day was recorded.

Mrs McQuire said: “The children hope to make loads of money especially for the children of Haiti. “Their big ambition is that our song is heard by the people of Haiti, so as they know that we are thinking about them and trying to help.”

The school has not yet priced the CD.
