The Final Blog

The final part of my challenge was today (Sunday) in Newcastle and would involve running or should I rephrase this as completing the 30th Bupa Great North Run.

I have completed the run on 5 previous occasions and this part of the challenge was not as important to me as completing the coast to coast walk. It did cross my mind to have a sleep in this morning for the first time in a couple of weeks especially when Mark and I looked out of the bedroom window from our honeymoon suite (!) to see the rain pouring down. But we managed to get up and give it ago. I have been very lucky over the last couple of years that Nova International (the company that organise the Great Run series) put me in a hotel room for the night and provide me with VIP hospitality and allow me to start the run with the celebrities and VIP’s. So off we went to the start area to mingle with celebrities and soap stars. I was glad when the race got under way at 10.40am and we managed to run for the first two miles in around about 18 minutes. My foot which I injured on the walk was however causing me considerable pain so we had to slow down somewhat. The atmosphere at the Great North Run was fantastic as usual and it was an amazing sight to see the red arrows flying over us just 25 minutes into walk. It was also great to see loads of people shouting support from the sidelines and some even recognised me which was really nice. We completed the run in 3 hours 15 minutes but the time didn’t really matter at least we completed it to put the cherry on the cake of our two week challenge.

I've only just managed to post this my final blog and I am already thinking what my next challenge will be.  My right foot is still fairly sore and I'm off to get it checked out today.

Thank you to everyone that supported the challenge and the charity.. Bye for now

Have your say

I have followed your progress through this blog. Walking all that way and then doing the GNR is pretty amazing.

I've just ordered your book on Amazon and can't wait to read it!
